Instagram is testing a new feature called ‘Collab’ in India and the UK. This allows creators to collaborate on posts and Reels by sending an invite to other creators. If they accept, the post or Reels has both the account names, and it reaches the followers of both accounts. If you are wondering how to use the Instagram Collab feature on iPhone and Android, read along.
Note: Ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
- Open the Instagram app and tap the + icon to upload a new post or Reel.
- Tap Next, add filters if you would like to.
Next, you will see the screen where you write a caption, etc. - On this screen, tap Tag People.
- Tap Invite Collaborator.
- Use the search box to type the person’s name with whom you wish to collaborate. It appears you can add more than one collaborator.
- Tap Done.
- Finally, write a caption and tap Share.
Once the person you are trying to collaborate with accepts your Collab request, your post will be shared with their followers too. Plus, the person will be shown as the author of the post.
This is how to invite collaborators and use the new Collab feature on the Instagram app. In my testing, I found that you can collaborate with accounts you follow or with a public account (even if you do not follow them).
If you do not see the Instagram Invite Collaborator option, worry not. Currently, the company is testing this feature and has not rolled it out to everyone. Check after a few days or weeks, and you too will most likely have this new option.

Why are some accounts ‘greyed out’ when searching to invite a collaborator?
One key reason is that users have turned off their tags, so they can’t be invited as collaborators. Although I have also noticed other accounts turned greyed out and display a message that the user can’t be invited as a collaborator yet. This is probably a glitch from Instagram’s side and hopefully will be resolved soon.
